I'm new to the forum this is my first post... i joined to ask some of you this question...
I have a cheap yamaha 4 string bass that i bought at a guitar center for like 250 bucks around 6 years ago and it has held up amazingly well... it is an all black rbx270 with p/j style pickups a rosewood fretboard and a maple neck... I have it strung with some really heavy ghs strings becuase i used to tune it down to C for some metal \m/ ...but i found the heavy guage strings make chili pepper and other funkier (fingerstyle only) styles sound even crisper...
my question is this... im sure you all go through times of boredom and i'm trying to respark some interest by changing some of the electronics... id like to go to a bartolini preamp like this one... Invalid Link Removed
however the cavity in the back of my bass is about an inch and a half by four and has barely room for the existing three pots and output jack.... am i SOL trying to squeeze a pre-amp like this in there... is that what i get for buying a 250 dollar bass?
I also have a 5 string ibanez srx 705 that i spent almost 700 bucks on and the active preamp makes it sound so much better but i have this attatchment to the yamaha and ill never move on from it haha... i would like to improve on its sound to get something with some more balls a bit more growl and tonal flexibility... this is why i chose the bartolini seperate volumes 3 band eq and push pul mid selector.... i would probably upgrade to bartolini or emg pickups later on ... but with such a small cavity do i have any options?
