Hello everyone, this is Raphael from France, first post and glad to be here. A few months ago I thought I'd give bass a try, having no background in music apart from messing around on a guitar two decades ago. I bought a cheap bass and a beginner online course. I enjoyed it, learning is so much easier now with all the ressources online, and decided I was going to keep at it.
My goal is to mainly practice, make and record some cover songs, and at some point hopefully start jamming with other people (for ***** and giggles, not planning to gig in the near future, if ever).
I need to buy a few pieces of gear and would appreciate your advice.
I'm not looking for the best, nor the cheapest, nor even what's "best for me"... because I don't know that yet. I don't want to overthink it, so I'm really looking for consensus, no-brainer purchases that are well-suited for the majority of beginner/intermediate-level players. The things that make one say "can't make a mistake buying this!"
The following list are what I believe I need, along with my best guess of the brand/model I should buy. Of course I never tried any of this stuff, and this is where you lovely people come in and tell me that X is totally wrong and I should buy Y instead...
Also, feel free to expand the list if I'm forgetting anything.
Amp: Rumble 40?
Audio interface: Scarlett 2i2?
Headphones, for practicing, editing, listening to tunes... so many options
Speakers: Same as above
Recording software: Protools? Garageband? I think I need the most commonly used so I can work/share with other people.
TIA
PS: I know there are different forums for different categories of gear, but I felt that starting several threads would be messy. Thanks for bearing with me!
