Hey guys ive recently decided i want to go back to a four string bass. I'm in the process of selling my 5 string. I am hoping to have 450-500 to spend on a new bass. Any suggestions? I play a lot of alt rock and grunge as well as some folk and acoustic projects. I really do Justin Chancellor from Tool and write a lot of lines inspired from his work, I really like playing a stingray and I really love the Ray 34ca ive also been looking at a trobute g&l l2000but im open to all suggestions.

Either an Ibanez SR500 or a Squire J Deluxe . Both great basses at any price and both under $500. (Well, the Ibby might be a few bucks more and the Squier goes for around $350.) Those are my favorite cheaper basses.

I have to agree with the Ibanez SR500. I collect Fender basses but I have two SR500s. I play around a lot of sand and saltwater and wanted something inexpensive. I found while inexpensive they give a full spectrum of sound, stay in tune and I have had no trouble with either one. If they were passive they would be perfect.

I love it, it sports a dual (passive) humbucker (intead of just one) and its electronic - wired serial/parallel too - can get passive

But I've to say Sterling Ray34ca is something I found attractive.

Cheers,
Wallace
