What is a good amp for small clubs to give you that "Deep Ballsy Sound" you need for blues?
I have to agree with this 100%. The Blues is not about any particular sound, it is about expression of a feeling. Blues players use whatever they can get their hands on.It honestly doesn't matter. Just play the right notes at the right time. There are other genres where your tone matters more.

That works too. It's the mid range of the p that sits perfectly. I don't ever use flats for anything though. But, it makes it easier.Here on Beale street you see every kind of bass imaginable “the P bass with flats” maybe rarely … my go-to is usually a Peavey T45 with Dunlop super brights
