Bass Amp Help, Newbee

Ok, I'm a guitar player being asked to play bass for a band and I have no bass gear. While I have spent thousands on guitars and guitar amps over the years, I have no bass gear; I've been using a friend's bass.

We will play small clubs, most of which have a PA. How big of a combo will be good? I was thinking a 1x15 combo but how many watts to stand alone if no pa is available? We play Alt Rock but I will play with a band that does Sabbath type metal as well. Thanks for the help.

Any suggestions for under $400?

If you have a pa, a 115 combo should work just fine. I rocked a GK Backline 600 with a 115 cab for a while. If you go used, you could easily set that up for under 400.

that's a big question, the usual response would be, how big a venue do you usually play (people wise)?

personally, if you can find a 4X10 combo you'd be better off, as 4X10's push out more air than a 1X15, therefore you might get better bang for your buck!

Hartke? Ashdown? only problem is, your, probably only going to get 150W with these, or probably going to need 200W+ unless ur DI-ing to the PA
