Hello again I just had a quick question for you all.So about a month ago I picked up my first bass and have been loving playing.I have been talking a little slow and just learning the notes on the neck while doing scales up and down and getting my technique down and doing lots of reading.Also been learning to play the Rage by Priest.Any way back to the point, So a buddy of mine is learning guitar and every time I go over I pick up the guitar and just mess around with it.I just love doing it and I find myself reading his guitar books and learning new stuff.I really just love music and learning as much as I can about it.Well yesterday was at the music store and I wondered over to the guitar section and was looking around.Well I started picking them up and screwing around.I ended up trying about 10 guitars and all of the were nice but one particularly stood out and that was the epiphone Les Paul special II It felt amazing and surprisingly right I also Loved the price tag of $170.So I was just curious on if anyone ever learned to play both bass and guitar at the same time.I really would love to learn both even if it was just some basic chords and some song intros on the guitar.

It's your time and your money - sounds like it would be time spent in something you enjoy. Go for it.
I learned both. Guitar is very useful for learning about chords and chord progressions (though piano is probably best for studying harmony)
Also because the bottom 4 strings on guitar are tuned same as a bass (only a few octaves up) a lot of learning can be shared.
Thats one thing I really want to do.Is record myself on guitar playing a few chords then come back with the my bass and play along.
That can be a very solid learning tool. Navigating through chord progressions and key changes is much easier when you are controlling said progressions and changes.

So I went to the music store today and checked out the Les Paul a little more and I love the feel of her especially the neck. I'm probably going pick it up next week.But I had a question and just thought I would ask here instead of starting a new thread.I was looking at some of the used stuff and I noticed a little vox da15 amp for $50 looks like a sweet little amp.Was curious if anyone had any experience with this amp?

I always wanted to play guitar but my fat fingers didn't like contorting to play chords. I just fiddle around a bit for fun and to learn chords.
I realised lead guitarists are lazy, a few notes here, a couple more in that bar there.......not like us bassists, from beat one til the last we don't stop.

what a sell-out you are !!! nah just playing with you . I play both bass and guitar , I started out on guitar then moved to bass when I realised that there were a ton of good guitarist out there ,and not so many good bassist, and if I played bass I would have a better chance of getting into a band,so I made the switch . Its good to learn as many instruments as you can IMO . I am now learning the keyboard , but the most useful thing I have ever learned was a bit of theory , scales and modes will help you the most , the fingerings for guitar and bass guitar are basically the same ,once you learn them they are the same for every instrument you play in regards to there intervals .
In my opinion, it's always a good thing to learn another instrument. I've never tried learning two at once. I played guitar for 30 years before getting serious about bass. The only downside I could see would be if you can't put in the practice time on either one to make progress. But it'll probably work out okay if you're committed and stick with it.

Like Robus, I've been playing guitar for over 30 yrs before getting in to the bass. Even after 30+ yrs though, I'm still learning the guitar. In fact, picking up the bass has helped my guitar playing.
On guitar, I'm basically a rhythm player. I like to sing and play. Over the past 3-4 yrs I've been focusing on playing lead. A common link between playing lead on the guitar and playing bass is arpeggios. Playing the bass has forced me to learn them, even if it's simply the 1-3-5. My lead playing has become more melodic because of it.
I would say that learning both at the same time is a great idea. Each one will teach you something about the other.
