Bass Big Muff or OBD-3?

Hi,
I'm considering to buy one of these pedals.
Which one do you think is the best, and why?
Other recommendations are welcome.

id go with the boss odb 3. it has great sound and is super durable. adds a ton of bass annnnnd you can mess around with high and low freq fuzz.

then again its all about the sound. listen to a lot of demos on youtube.

I mainly play rock (RHCP, Pearl Jam, GNR), Funk, Ska and Punk.

I owned both units. I sold the ODB-3.

They have different sounds. The Muff is meatier. The ODB-3 is more metallic. Both are great pedals, but the Muff is more "my" sound. You should A/B them before you buy. No one can tell you which is better, you have to decide for yourself.

I own the ODB-3 and I found that the distortion just sounded a little too "separated" to my ears. Sure, they are built like tanks but that isn't a substitute for tone IMO. I was looking at several different distortion pedals and ended up going with a sansamp. They do a little more than just distortion (I use it primarily for recording) but if you haven't check them out yet, I would recommend it.

If you were stuck on those two, I would go with the Big Muff...

Get and ODB and search for mods on this forum.

It will make a world of difference to the pedal.

Big Muff.........NO Contest. I have both. The boss is sterile and would make a good guitar distortion. The Big Muff is ALOT warmer and goes from subtle overdrive to full on distortion while maintaining BASS tone. The boss does not. I've played professionally for 12 years doing an average of 300 shows a year and am VERY picky about my tone. TRUST ME the Big Muff is the way to go. But be sure you get the black one. It's awesome.

One more thing...........someone recommended getting the Boss and searching for mods........If I have to search for mods to make a pedal sound good I have the wrong pedal. That's just my opinion. I want to buy a pedal and use it. I DON'T want to buy a pedal and mod it and buy a special cable and buy a special anything else. I want to play my bass. It's like buying a new car and upgrading the engine. Get the good one first and you're done

Well thats just an opinion thing. I love tube screamers to no ends. So I got one and just changed one cap to make it work great for me.

I didn't like either of those & found a modded DS-1 to be better than both. Both the Muff and the ODB-3 got too muddy and inarticulate when playing fast.

Also, if its a toss-off, I'd check out the Harmony Central reviews for both pedals before calling it.

So you don't mod your basses, changes tubes from factory in an amp, etc? I understand your point, but you should not be so black and white about it.

Thanks, I'm going to test them both, but I think I'm going for the BBM because I like its sound better.

You have good taste. I've played both, own the BBM. As someone pointed out before, th OBD-3 sounds too metallic.
