Bass build... with a twist....

hello friends,
just joined the forum, need somewhere to share my new build, thought yall would appreciate this

This is my first bass build ever of course....

So I am a machinist in training, and signed up for a independent study class this semester. essentially I get to build what ever I want ( with some limitiations of course lol)

So I had lots of ideas, parts for my motorcycle, tools, even a hair dryer rack...or...OR....

I could build a BASS!! out of aluminium! ( I dont even know how to spell aluminium)

could it be done? what would it sound like? would it weigh 100 lbs?? who knows, thats the fun right?

I began drawing. and drawing and drawing. and having a blast doing it.
my current idea will go somthing like this but simplified (lol more drawing)

and then I got bored with drawing and started cutting chips

(i do do have prints drawn up more or less for these parts)

I didnt start taking pictures until a couple days in to the project unfortunatly

observe...

thanks for all the feedback fellas!

it may be super heavy, but so far all estimates put it at `mildly uncomfortable` as opposed to unplayable

the neck shall be made of...Aluminum...awesome

thanks for the link to alusonic! I have done quite a bit of googling and youtubing on aluminum basses and some how never found the alusonic basses. those are bad ass! and they sound great too. there a bit ridiculously priced but that dosent suprise me.

sadly schools closed for the rodeo this weekend so I wont be back in the shop until monday or tuesday

stay tuned...

Sub'd. Even if it's completely un-playable and sounds AWFUL, it'll make an excellent display piece, excellent work!

Personally, I'd have tried using thinner sheet alimunium and make a hollowbody design to keep the weight down, but that'd be much more complicated and difficult!
