Bass Collection

well, i recently aquired a bass collection (sgc-nanyo) sb-301 i think the model is, and well, i love the sound, but whenever i reach for the g string the tone just becomes weak and loses most of the bottom end...could this be the pickups or the preamp or both

also, what would be a good replacement set?

FWIW:

check for string to pup spacing on the G string or for the nut binding the string. Not really sure what you mean by bottom cause g string is into guitar range over 80Hz.

well on my ksd and blade the g string still has some bite to it, on this its like hitting a string made out of twine....i put flats on it the other night and its kinda helped it a bit

FWIW:

apparently it wasn't a defect in the string itself so ditto first post. You might also check for slop at the tuner and bridge saddle but fat chance there. Usually a good idea to check out the free easy stuff first.

ummm...whats "slop"

Sorry, didn't notice the Aussie thing.

Free play, looseness. When the string is taught and up to tune the tension basically removes any slack in the system and makes that a highly unlikely source but one never know do one.

Probably pup height. Doubling string distance drops output by roughly 60% (Bill Lawrence). That combined with the lighter guage string makes it a high probability shot. If so, the D should probably be detectably a bit on the low side as well.

Also is this weakness solo, to music, or both? If it's just to music then could be eq but doesn't necessarily rule out raising the pup as a fix.
