Bass/effects on Journey's 'Don't stop believin'

I searched but got no real info on this. What bass & effects are on the studio version of this tune? I'm guessing a Steinberger w/a flanger or chorus..?

I read somewhere that is an old Peavey T-40. I get a very similar tone favoring the bridge pickup and adding some mid.

Thank you so much. I have an old Stein-Hohn-berger that would've sounded perfect but I did a horrible-looking yet fairly functional defret; maybe I'll pull that one out...

Okay, I think you've got the Steinberger with the bridge-pickup maxed with chorus and compression and the tone control on the bass turned down and upper-mid's on the amp turned up. I can get a similar sound on my G&L L-2000 using these settings.

This song was the biggest influence on my tone for years. I've found that the real secret to getting this tone is does not come in a box. It comes from your fingers. Plucking as close as possible to the bridge will get you pretty close to without the aid of any effects. That being said, I am a total effects whore, and I also use chorus and compression to zero in on this sound.

+1. I can come very close by soloing my bridge pup and plucking close to the bridge. BUT the chorus helps.

If I string my Magnum with rounds, attack close to the bridge pickup and throw on some chorus... there is that sound.

If a chorus is needed to achieve that sound, I'm thinking a Dimension-type chorus gets as close as can be.

It's a very interesting bass line. But Vallory did not receive any song writing credit for this. I wonder if it was written by Jonathan Cain. At certain points the bass, keyboards, and lead guitar all play the same line.

I think not, simply because most of that sound is from the bass (Steinberger when I saw them 40 years ago) not effects.
