Bass EQ cuts in and out

I just got an Ibanez SR1205e from an online store and it has an interesting problem. In active mode, the tone is super bassy and the "low" knob on the EQ appears to have no effect. That is until I turn it almost all the way down, at which point it suddenly goes to zero and the tone sounds thin. It's like it's acting as a toggle switch between zero and full blast. I've already tried changing the battery. It sounds fine in passive mode. Any ideas?

If it's an easy fix I'll do it myself, or possibly take it to a repair shop If I can't fix it. This was a great deal so I'd hate to have to return it. It was a B-stock item, but the seller claimed that was just because of a small blemish on the bottom.

You could try spraying Deoxit in the bass pot. If you have a multimeter you could meter the pot to see if its working.

Doing much beyond that and you might have a difficult time getting them to accept a return if you can't fix it.

If the pot isn't working, you could replace the pot. Once you start soldering they won't accept a return.

If that's the price for a pot, that's outrageous.

The problem is, you don't know if the pot is the issue or perhaps a defect in the preamp itself or possibly something else. Once you go changing parts you own the bass.

That was the price for the official part from Ibanez. I took it by the shop today and was told that a replacement pot would be $5 and he'd take care of it all for $20-30. Ended up leaving it there since it's a great business, and totally worth not having to deal with the headache of sending it back and finding a deal that good again. Thanks for the input anyway, ddnidd1.
