Bass fizzles on bottom string

Ok, update, replaced the battery, sounds a lot fuller and more like it should sound, but the bottom string still fizzles, checked the setup and it seems just fine. I went to adjust the pickups and the screws to do such seem to be stripped out at the top, likely by previous owner, as this was a Sweetwater "Dent 'n Scratch" special, and I can't adjust them properly. Is there an easy way to fix this or should I just give up and ask for a refund and return?

When you say stripped out at the top, do you mean the screw hole near the top is stripped? If that’s the case, you can take a toothpick and good wood glue (Titebond is good), put a little glue in the hole, then stick the toothpick in the hole and cut it off flat with the surrounding surface.
If the screw head itself is stripped, it’s easy enough to replace.

yeah, the screw hole at the top is stripped, that glue idea might just work, at least so I can get the screws out and replaced with some new ones. where could I get some new ones from?
