bass for a beginner

hello i am looking for a new bass (max. 300 USD). Ive been playing on the guitar for 3 years and i wanted to try playing on bass. i usually play alt rock, midwest emo, shoegaze l, posthardcore and mathrock. I think i would prefer a longscale one. i found ibanez tmb100 is it a good option?

The Ibanez TMB line of basses are very good entry level instruments and are totally gig worthy once you get to that point.
As always, it’s best to try as many basses as possible and go with the one that makes you go “Ahh!”

If I could only get 1 bass and had $300 spending money I'd probably try to find a Ibanez SR. Whether it's the 300, 400, maybe 500 can be found in that price range I'd be hard pressed to find anything better. The only thing that could top it would be a Warwick rock bass or if you found a used peavey millennium. Look hard enough and you might score something worth way more for 300.

If you can find a Yamaha in your budget, give it a try. They are usually quality instruments, more often than not in the top of their category, no matter the price point.

Modern basses are very well made so you find something of a known brand and model and you're not going to go wrong. Many will suggest their fave brands and models (mine are Ibanez SRs) and use those to make a list but if you can get to a large store with a lot of stock, something will speak to you, so get that one and have fun.

PS: whatever you buy, get it set up properly.
