Bass for playing deep house/nu jazz

I love deep house, a style of music that often has interesting bass lines and really really makes them shine. I'm looking for a bass that can deliver that smooth and full sound that is so often heard in this genre. Here's an example : .

The G&L L2500 seems to fit the bill quite well, but I would like to hear some other suggestions if you have some.

Thanks !

Yo I never hear that group before, but i like. Try a Bongo, I play alot of different stuff, and it handles it all. I know a lot of people don't like the way the look, but the sound is all that.

I think you're thinking about it too much, Professor Jones. Any great bass sound will work with deep house, nujazz, breaks, country, rock and roll...you name it.

'smooth and full' - Something like a Jbass. Pretty standard response.

Hell, get a nice 5 banger JBass and throw in a Piezo Hipshot A bridge with an Audere preamp and you'll have pretty much all the range you'd want for electronic music.

Realizing that some of the best tones to tape come from an old school passive Fender will probably lead you to keeping your basses simple, but if you're gonna go all out, then why not do 'er up?

i think a G&L or a MM will give you that tone and a whole lot more, I'm not knocking a Jazz bass, but a MM, or a G & L will give you the jazz sound, but I don't think a Jazz can go where the MM or G & L can.

+1 on the JB. As Noted earlier Julian Crampton plays on that song, and Randy Hope Taylor also plays on some Reel People tracks. Both of them are JB Players

I've been an admirer of RP for a few years now. There is a lot of overlap of personnel from Incognito on RP's more recent music... Basists, Vocalists, etc... Great Stuff!

Thanks for the replies !

I still can't get that tone with my jazz. Here's the problem : to get that nice slight growl, I have to add some mids. But when I do it also adds some sort of "zing" to the sound, which is not what I'm looking for. Even when rolling the highs off it's still there.

Here's another example of the tone I'm looking for :

It's basically the same as the tone from the first video, with some sight nuances.
