Bass guitar recommendations under $500

Looks like Squier just raised their prices in the past 2 or 3 weeks - around 10%. That sale price was close to the regular price very recently.

I also want to mention that while yamaha makes some AMAZING basses, watch their entry level stuff, the 100 and 200 series basses, which price wise compete with ibanez 300 and 400 series basses, but ibanez 300 and 400 series basses are damn good. Just maybe not what you want, since you aren't interested in dual pickup active basses. But quality wise, cheaper ibanez is better than cheaper yamaha. Midrange pricing and upwards though, both are oustanding.

For sub

Ibanez like mentioned above (SR300 line) or maybe a Yamaha TRBX304 would do you well for the money. I'd pick the Yamaha for personal preference, but if you have the option to try in person you may be able to see what feels better to you.

For sub $500 those are good option. I would lean Yamaha. IF you can stretch to $600, the Yamaha BB434 is a LOT of bass for the coin

I’d go to Sweetwater and look for a Squier Classic Vibe 60’s P bass

When they were alder I would have agreed. They are now using Poplar and Nato among others. I think the alder Yamahas are the better deal these days vs the classic vibes
