Bass instruction for beginners

Discussion in 'General Instruction [BG]' started by Konan888, May 6, 2010.

  1. Hi,

Can you recommend a book or site that offers good bass instruction for beginners. I need exercises, how to read music and general understanding of my bass.

StudyBass is good ... and free. It's how I started out.

However, I found I progressed much faster once I switched my primary study over to the Hal Leonard Bass Method, Complete Edition, by Ed Friedland. It goes for less than 20 bucks (US) and includes 3 play-along CDs.

Here's a recent thread on the book: http://www.talkbass.com/forum/showthread.php?t=652399

    Have you looked into lessons?

+1 for "Study Bass" and "Bass Guitar for Dummies" !

I also highly recommend Carol Kaye's teaching material. There is lots of valuable information on her site also : www.carolkaye.com
