OK gang the idea is very easy. Let's take a look at some of the most well known bassists over the years and check out their lineage, be they familial or not. For example, we all know Verdine White as the quintessential 70s funk fingerstyle player who was also one of the founding (along with his late brother Maurice) members of Earth, Wind, & Fire. But did you know who his EB teacher back when he was first learning was a legend in his own right? While 'Dine was studying the "Classical, technical, foo-foo stuff (his words)" under CSO bassist Radi Velah, he spent weekends learning the electric bass from none other than Chicago session bassist Louis "Lui-Lui" Satterfield of Chess Records. Satt worked with Maurice at Chess and taught Verdine as well. We know Satt as the trombonist with the Phoenix Horns.
