i was wondering if you could put like a mustang neck on a jazz body? would it fit? would all you need is shorter strings?

It is much more complicated than that. For all intents and purposes, you couldn't do it. It could be done but not without a lot of work.
They have different scale lengths. If you just slapped the Mustang neck on, the notes wouldn't be correct. You would have to move the bridge and that would mean probably moving the pickups. That's a lot of routing! This would be a BIG modification, one that most people wouldn't have the tools and expertise to do.
The original neck holes wouldn't line up. The mustang neck is also narrower at the heel meaning gaps on the sides. Moving the bridge forward would be on the easy list of things to do. The rear pup would also be very close to the bridge, meaning a weak and very trebly sound. You'd be better off if you're set on a short scale jazz, to buy a short scale jazz. You could also route for jazz pups in the mustang body if it's in your possesion.
The bridge would be in the wrong place and you'd never be able to get the intonation even close.
Thought of those, also "Stangco" "Fenquier" and "Brotang"
I like "Squender" best as a company name but I did favor "Mustonco" as a model name.
So it's official, it's a "Squender Mustonco"
