Bass Player on Night Court Theme?

And yet Tom Scott isn't credited with composing the music, someone else is.

While you certainly sound convincing about the Tom Scott composing and Marc Miller playing bass, it's the first mention of anyone other than Jack Elliott having written the track.

So was the composer Jack Elliott or Tom Scott? If only Tom Scott says that Tom Scott wrote it then I'm thinking everyone else who says it's Jack Elliott might be right.

But Marc Miller is very cool to know.

What I really want to know now is what is the bass being used? Sounds exactly like a vintage Ibanez Soundgear dual pickup active bass to me, like a 400 or 500 series. But I'm not sure they existed in 1984 (or 83 or whenever the music would have been recorded).

I don't have the information to answer the questions, but certainly don't take your doubts personally. On the rare occasions Marc and I get to hang out (he's in Seattle, I'm in Louisiana), we talk about all kinds of stuff, but not much about credits.

I'm afraid what I've offered is all I have to offer. It's frustrating trying to nail down some of the "who" behind many of our favorite TV basslines.

cool, and regardless, it was one of the reasons I got into slap bass and non-gibson HH basses back in the day. (love gibby HH sound, but I mean that poppy HH ibanez-esque modern tone, barts, or ibbies, etc brought... living colour, night court, etc).

Even with modulation no way a keyboard does that slide about 15 seconds in.

I'm not qualified to agree with this statement. Tho I feel like I've been a fairly devoted student of the electric bass guitar for about 40 years now, I still often find it impossible to match the fluidity and feel reached by (a 23 year old) Stevie Wonder.

FWIW... I was playing last night at a restaurant here on the OBX of NC, and spoke with a guy who is a drummer. He said his brother is a session player in NYC. He said I would probably not know his name, but would know some of his bass lines. His brothers name is Keith Boone. He has played with some big names, on familiar jingles and theme songs. The one that stood out was Night Court. I just was going to check him out and searched "Night Court Bassist" and found this thread. This might shed light on what seems to be an unknown.

Marc is a friend of mine (as is @BigDaddyB), and he was a first-call session guy back in the 80s. He also played with Oscar Peterson. Funny enough, Marc, BigDaddyB, and I are all IT guys now, Marc and I in Seattle, and as BigDaddyB says down the thread, in Louisiana. Cheers.
