Bass players and stools

I actually do a lot of gigs where I am sitting. They tend to be smaller jazz type gigs, or reading gigs where the band is not featured, but more of a backup to a singer.

Of course, rock gigs or gigs where the band is the featured act, sitting will look a bit strange. Quite often, visuals are at least as important as the music. Sad, but true.

But hey, AJ is a big proponent of it, and he is difficult to argue against. Whatever works for you...

You're welcome. It's part of the stage schtick for bagging on the customers that sit at the bar or around the perimeter of the room on stools.

Feel free to use it liberally while insulting the customer of your choice.

There's an additional joke about turning it upside down and sharing the seat with 3 of your friends but...I'll leave that to your imagination.

I often do 4 hour functions and I take my own wooden stool to every gig. It stays in the car. I try to only sit on ballads though. I still ,sort of, have an obligation to dance around like Verdine from EWF during the dance sets. Once that ballad kicks in, though, I'm taking a load off.

I use a stool. I had a total knee replacement and I just can't stand for long periods of time. I'm actually glad to see I'm not the only one. My band is cool with it and I still feel out of place at times.

Same here. I got a skinny stool where the seat is about the same height of my butt and the stool is positioned right next to my bass cab. When I'm sitting in it, it still looks like I'm standing.
But I have a keyboard in front of me too so that helps too. Put a keyboard in front of you.
