Bass Pod Advice?

Hi Justin,
Just wondering if you have any advice for using a Bass Pod in live use. I've had a Bass Pod XT for years and I am trying to get a convincing (realistic) sound going through my amp.In some ways I think I miss my original Bass Pod! I've disabled the cabinet modeling but I'm still left with an "eh" kinda tone. I'm wondering if you had some sort of "funkalishis" recipe for tone tweaking. I'm looking for a slightly overdriven GeddymeetsSteveHarris fingerstyle tone. Any thoughts?

If the BassPod XT has a Sansamp emulation that might be the way, or just get a Sansamp.

I know you are interested in JMJ’s thoughts, but especially if you are going for Geddy, I +1 the Tech21 SansAmp suggestion. Seems like if you’re fighting with the POD to get there, grab a SansAmp instead. They’re cheap(ish,) reliable, and frankly pretty cool. I know that is what Geddy has been using for a long time, and Harris has a similar string noise grindy thing happening.

(Interestingly enough about Steve Harris, I read somewhere that he always uses flat wound strings!! I never would have guessed that in a million years!!)

Sans Amp. I fight the POD...Sans Amp more immediate. The POD can be rad, but damn it can take time to get something good that's for sure.

Thanks for responding Justin. Have you ever had the opportunity to use the Bass Pod in a live setting? When you did were you ever satisfied with the results? How did you use it? In front of an amp? Direct to a desk? Inquiringanal minds want to know?
