Bass Setup in Dallas, TX

Hey guys. Forgive my newbness, please. I'm a rythym guitarist turned bassist for my P&W band.

I have a Fender P-Bass (MIM) that I gutted and replaced just about everything. The last major thing I'd like to do is get the bass setup.

Years ago, I used a guy in Lewisville, TX (Texas Guitar & Sound), but it seems that he's no longer in business. Can anyone recommend someone they trust in the north Dallas area (I live up near McKinney) to do a good job?

Thanks for all the help. I love reading the threads and trying to update my bass knowledge.

Kyle

Only guy I use is Dan McCarthy-Dallas guitar repair, 214-724-3789, located in Dallas, around 75 & SMU blvd, have taken at least 5 basses to him and he never let me down, Dan's a great guy with a nice small shop, works on his own, so you know your axe will get the attention it needs, check website-dallasguitarrepair.com for prices, worth the drive from McKinney and welcome to the TB forum, wherever you chose to go plz let others know how it worked out for you.

I went by to see Dan today since his Invalid Link Removed is nearby. I'm going to let him set up (intonation and check the neck) my Warwick Thumb 5 string at the beginning of November. My Warwick has never had any work done on it since the factory setup. He said to provide strings which I'll be happy to give him a set of DR Low Riders. I'll let TBers know how it goes. He did know about this website.

Dave2, yes, plz let us know how it goes and I hope you'll be as happy with Dave's work as I have been.

I finally got a little break in my gig schedule and took my 2000 Warwick Thumb 5 in to Dan last Monday. I wanted the neck tweaked if need be, intonation and new strings put on. He said he may adjust the action a bit - but it played pretty nicely to begin with. I think it was the factory setup. He may also fix the volume pot which seems to have a small issue when pushing it for 'active'.

He said it would be ready in about 10 days to 2 weeks (I didn't want to pay the rush charge) which would put it at Monday Dec 13 at the latest. I can't wait to get it back but until then I'm playing a G&L 1000 and my fretless Genesis 5.

Will let you know how it is when it comes back.

Dan at Dallas Guitar Repair is a really good guy. He worked on my Warwick Thumb - tweaked the neck a touch, set intonation and put new DR strings on it, cleaned up the frets, and looked at the electronics.

He's very knowledgable and Dan took his time talking with me about my bass (he likes Warwicks), what he did and why, and about another question that I had.

I would definitely have him do more work for me - and will. I highly recommend Dan McCarthy (no he didn't tell me to say this although he does read TB sometimes).

Thanks,

Dave
