Ask Pete Townshend, he got injured a couple of times smashing his gear. Or As Paul Stanley, he actually had to go to the hospital after a piece of the body of the guitar he broke smashed into his face.

So, now, when Paul Stanley smashes a guitar, it's a prop, a cheap POS guitar with the neck swan almost right through, ready to snap on impact.

If you have to ask how to smash your bass, somehow I don't think you should be doing it.

I totally agree. While smashing an instrument does seem wasteful, I think if it is the right moment- it can be "Rock and Roll and awesome", but seeing that you failed and now are trying to get advice, it seems pretty clear, it won't be that type of moment and you will more than likely ruin your neck.

I understand what you all mean by the fact that it's a waste, but you all need to realize this: music is freedom, absolute freedom from the stupid shackles of our mediocre society, that, as much as we take advantage of it, it's freedom. When you smash an instrument like that, it's the energy of being loud, angry and throwing a tantrum like someone said. I can only imagine how fun it'd be (too poor to do it myself.) Music is freedom, and it comes in any form. Any sound made that can show your feeling inside, is something I consider music. If I was Pete Townsend, I would destroy the poop out of my guitars, and have a blast. Jimi Hendrix lit his guitar on fire.
Oh! And response to the original question. I would imagine hollow bodies would break much easier.

This kind of wastefulness exists when theres an abundance of something. Certainly with the famous players, theyve got tons of free guitars lying around the place, they dont care if they smash 1 per night.

It reminds me of how school children treat the school's musical gear. Some dont feel any responsibility to look after the gear because they dont bear the cost when it gets broken.

As mentioned somewhere in the thread, food gets treated the same way. I still cringe watching American or British television when they waste massive quantities of food to illustrate a point, even on "diet & health" programs where you may think theyd have a bit more consideration.

irretrievable, you will realize that you could use a part off of it.
