bass solo

Hi,

I've just bought a bass scale book.
it has the pentatonic,major,minor etc scales.

The purpose I bought that book is that so I can do a bass solo while I'm playing in a band,
I played pop and jazz.

So I'm just wondering which scale should I used?
Or Is there a good combination of scales for a bass solo i.e: Pentaonic scale and mixoldyan scale.

Yeah, questions like that can only be answered by years of playing and your own personal trials and errors. It's never as simple as "what scale do I use." Yet, it's not as complicated as brain surgery and it's well within anyone's grasp to understand it. But it takes time.

my best advice to you is to check out some of the threads in this forum about transcription. it's the one thing that I recommend to everyone to start learning the laguage of improvised music. I've written extensively on the subject in my forum here, and there are lots of posts about which songs, albums, and solos are a good place to start working on it.

It's not a subject you can cover with just a couple of scales, and when you do go to take a solo you really shouldn't be thinking about what scales you are using, you should be having musical ideas in your head and then relating them to the audience through your instrument.

So take a look at a couple of the threads on my forum that cover transcription, and you'll find tons of material to work on.
