Double Bass Bass String Riddle

I'm a G string. I'm brighter than Evah Pirazzi Weich but darker than Obligato. My sustain and tension matches Spiro 4/4 Weichs well.

Who am I?

Now that I think about it, there's not a big difference between these two particular G strings in my experience.

I would agree that on the "brightness" scale there's not that much difference. They feel different to me, though.

I tried the Innovation G with Spiro Weichs but on my bass it did not work. Not enough sustain and a tonal mismatch. Different basses etc. I guess.

bskts: OK...thanks. My second choice (or first depending on the day) to match Spiro 4/4 Weichs would by a Zyex Light. Or most guts.

Anima no go! My guess is the Zyex light would be a good match. Overall while I like the sound of the 4/4 Weichs I think they are too supple for me and on my bass. My guess is I would prefer the 3885 Weichs. And my guess is that the Zyex Medium G would go well with those. And I'm pretty sure now that I think about it that I've read on the Zyex forum that people like to pair 3885Sweichs/Zyex Medium and S42Sweichs/Zyex Lights.

Well I'll just send you my address for that Anima. I guess your next bet is 3/4 weich, then try a zyex G

Samuel: - Spiro 3885 Weich D tension: 61.7 lbs.
Zyex Med G: 61 lbs.
Zyex Light G: 58 lbs

So you can see that in terms of tension, you could use either a Zyex medium G or a Light G next to the 3885 D. I have used both Zyex next to the 3885 Weich D. They both thump nicely and match the sound of 3885 D. I would not uses a Zyex G with the 4/4 Weichs.
But I would start with the Medium Zyex G if you prefer the slightly high tension of the 3885's.
