Double Bass bass string set up i have a question

1st string is pirastro slap gut
2st string is pirastro perpetual

the marked parts come into contact with each other, is that ok?

I can see where it might affect stable tuning. You'd have to shorten that G about three or four wraps around the shank to get the D string to clear.

I have never noticed any issue from the D resting on the g.
I don't think it moves very much once it's tuned up.

I would be more concerned from buzzes with the strings squished up against the edge of the pegbox?

What you can do (what I do) is put a bunch wraps on one side of the hole, then wrap it over to for the final wraps, like you did for the E.

Strings resting on top of each other is no biggie, however it's best to avoid having the strings touch the pegbox (which from what I understand can cause cracks). You could probably get away with having more excess string going through the hole, and then having the first wrap or two be on the opposite side of where the string will end up.

One of the manufacturers supplys little plastic tubes with their strings for these situations. The string
moves through the tube which rests on the opposing string.

yes its common. it can be changed by the amount of windings on the shaft. Thats why Thomastik strings have that plastic tube on the D string. I never have seen anyone use it for that
