Bass suggestions for heavy metal

When I played metal, I played a peavy foundation, they rock.
I also agree with
1.p-bass (Steve Harris)
2. Musicman- I saw a video of some concert dave mustaine put together, and half the bands were using stingrays.
3. Warwick
4. Ibanez - My SR800 suprised a lot of people.

edit: I also saw an Opeth video, the guy was using a Marcus Miller Jazz, and it sounded great.

And some great players have played with actives, but they're not my thing. Almost everything I use is more on the primitive old school end of things.

One of my friends, on the other hand, plays a Bongo, which is active, if I recall correctly. I've tried it out, it's an amazing bass. But I still like mine more.

Tool's first bassist used a passive Rickenbacker with pickups that had a design going back more than a half century. Their current bassist plays a Wal. They both sound incredible.

Yea, the bongo is an amazing bass. I picked a 6 HH up recently, the 18v 4 band onboard pre-amp is astounding.

Modulus, Spector, Zon are a few names that come to mind.

Bart Williams of Black Dahlia Murder plays a Sonus 5
Alex Webster(Cannibal Corpse) and Jon Vesano(Ex-Nile) play a Euro 5
Webster also plays Modulus basses

Ensiferum's bassist and Necrophagist's bassist were playing F basses when I saw them, Winds of Plague's bassist had a Thumb BO.

Decrepit Birth's bassist had an Ibanez soundgear something or other, and my good pal Dennis, bassist for Beneath the Massacre plays an Ibanez BTB 6-stringer.

I forgot to mention, almost anything you can put EMGs into you can use for metal, seriously, you could probably use a pink Hofner Viola bass if you could get EMGs into it.

Something about EMGs just makes a bass sound mean, and for aggressive metal, the meaner, the better.

When I got my Spector, playing it with my Death Metal band was like night and day switching from my Warwick Streamer LX.

If your looking to drop some serious cash go for a Musicman Bongo. Novy (Well known session bassist, played in Dimmu and Vader ALOT) Uses a Bongo all the time.

When I say Novy, he was playing an SR 5, and he sounded pretty intense

Orion from Behemoth uses pretty much ESP LTD's exclusively, apart from his Beast made by a custom luthier in poland.
