I do a lot in BEAD tuning these days, so short scale would put me off a bit.

That's fair, you can't find too many strings for short scales too easily, and that'd be a big drop in tension with standard gauges. One reason I got a five string was because drop tuning with standard strings on a four banger makes for a floppy e-string, so I think i can understand that a bit.

Usually I use .130, .100, .80, .60 on my BEAD basses. On my EADG basses I just use a pack of D'Addario EXL170s.

So, why did you feel the need to quote my post, with your political comment then?
My quoting the joke wasn't a political dig. It is an amusing historical fact that Soviet era consumer goods were crap and many jokes have been made about it... and quite logical that the seller would make that association in his description... also, the seller's joke would kind of fall apart if it wasn't considered in context of him selling a piece of crap Soviet era bass. I also quoted it before someone posted the full text of the ad, as I thought others would find it funny as well. Not as a politically angled comment.
Unlike your politically angled comment which seems to be confrontational when quoting me, claiming "illogical" association.
