Made it out to the west coast of the island on the weekend for more epic views and expertly built trail. Every time I go to Corner Brook, there's more trail built, they are doing a hell of a job over there. 5 years ago you had to shuttle 5 or 6km because there was no access to the downhill trails from their bottoms via trails. Now they have two machine built climb/easy descent trails and another long section of trail at the top linking all of the downhill routes. Now you can climb up one of the easy climbs, ride across the top and go down the other for a 10k+ route accessible to beginner/intermediate riders. Or you can climb up and take one of the expert routes down, rinse, repeat. It rained all weekend and the machine built stuff is so expertly graded that there was no standing water anywhere. Really excellent work.

And I'm exactly the opposite. I'm terrified of riding on the road around here but will ride down a near vertical rock face without blinking. Traffic-wise, we're clearly nowhere near Toronto levels but there is 0 bike infrastructure here and drivers are comically stupid and/or homicidal.
Yep, I try not to ride on the main roads here. I have about a dozen routes I can take around town but sometimes it's gotta be done. The parks, trails and open spaces are for me. Speaking of.....

Holy cow! I forgot how important tire choice was. My Gasgas came stock with Conti Mountain Kings front and rear and I've been running them for a while. I decided to spring for a Kryptotal up front and it's like a different bike. Cornering is no longer a hair-raising roll of the dice! I'll gladly pay the rolling resistance penalty.
Decided it was best to ride inside today. I get enough pollution riding in urban traffic without adding wildfire smoke to the mix. Should be cleared out with cooler temps & lower humidity by mid week.

.FYI the King series is being phased out and being replace by the Dubnital and Trinotal. A shame as the Cross King Protection in 2.3 was a good option for my old 26er. The Dubnital is not available in 26 and the Trinotal is only available in 26x2.2. A 26x2.4 Kryptotal is available, but pretty sure it won't actually fit between the chain stays.

My young fella is having good success with the Argotal on the front and Kryptotal on the rear but I'm really set in my ways about tires and am reluctant to change from the tried and true Assegai/DHR combo I've been running for years. DD casing (DH on rear if I can find it), always MaxxGrip compound. I will 100% take the rolling resistance hit for good traction.
FInally got a SRAM bleed kits and bled my brake this week. DOT 5.1 fluid is supposed to be black, right?

OMG, my brakes feel so much better after bleeding. It's unreal the difference that made and how crappy my brakes were performing prior to me doing the bleed.

I know, right? I didn't realize how much I was tip-toeing on egg shells.My only other current frame of reference are the well worn Schwalbe Nobby Nics on my Amish bike. Not the most aggressive tire, even when new. I have a fresh Maxxis Minion DHRII/Aggressor set waiting for that bike!
I ran a set of 26" Race Kings as my "gravel tires" for years. Great tire!

No pics but I’m happy to report that my newest riding buddy (my daughter) and I just completed a total 500km of riding together since early June. She’s recovering from a serious medical issue so we’re just taking it easy for now.
