I used to own an Ibanez ST-980 8-string bass that was previously owned by Marc Sloan, who played with Reed Ghazala, Elliott Sharp, & Rhys Chatham.

Yeah, I know: Who?

'73 Ric 4001-3.JPG My '73 Rick 4001 was previously owned by Sum Won Else... name of his band escapes me...:whistle:

My 1967 Kapa Continental bass was owned by Ken Gorka, who was the bassist for an east coast band called The Critters in the 1960s. I bought it for a little over 100$ from the guy he sold it to in the early 1970s. It's in very good condition. I located Kenny because he was part owner of a well known Greenwich Village New York rock venue called The Bitter End. I called him on the phone there, and told him that if he wanted to have his old bass back, I would send it to him at no cost. He wasn't interested. He also told me that did not use it for any recording dates.

Kenny died in 2015: Invalid Link Removed

I have not owned any celebrity instruments, but have played a few.

Gary Willis' first Ibanez prototype signature bass, at a Tribal Tech gig.

Percy Jones' custom Ibanez (hmm, a commonality, here!), at a gig that Rare Blend and Tunnels played at.

David Bowie's former Rickenbacker 366/12, at my home when a friend who owned it at the time brought it over.

This one I would not call a celebrity as he was not too well known, really; Jon Camp's 1974 4001 that he heavily modded, at a guitar show. I know the guy who owns/owned it at the time.

Can we add a couple that became celebrity owned before they actually were?

Geddy Lee fairly recently purchased two basses that I have played years before he bought them from their respective owners (I know both of them). The restored/customized/modded Rickenbacker 4080/12 and the RM3261, both of which he used on the R40 tour.

A friend used to own a Gibson EB3L that was allegedly used on the recording of Marilee Rush's "Just Call Me Angel In The Morning".
My friend was selling it in 1980 or so for $175 and I offered him more but was out of town.
He sold it to a stranger for less than I offered him for it, the b*stard.
I did end up buying another EB3L a couple years ago so I guess the incident haunted me a bit.

Nice man! That is one hell of a bass to! I recently try to get my hands on a MM Lane Poor pickup was providing real hard! What was it like?

There was not a bad setting on the Lane Poors, they were absolutely killer pickups. I have only played one other bass with LPs and, they too, were awesome. I would love to get my hands on a MM style pickup from them. I actually offered Tye some real cash for his custom shop Fender but it was not enough for his liking. It ended up going to the Puddle of Mudd bass player and he was selling it on consignment, last I heard.

If i can get my hands on one I will! Now they are back in production it should be easier but they are still like rocking horse £$%

Same here. An early 80’s Fender Jazz. Signed by him with a cool letter but plays/sounds like crap. It is a man cave wall decoration.

I have played Marcus Miller’s fretless Fodera at Rudy’s and also a bunch of Geddy’s gear when I was a teenager (friend was related to him).

Nothing too exciting in any case.
