In 40 years of playing, I have only owned 4 basses.

Ensign Bass (I believe made by Epiphone in the mid 60's) - I only played it for a very short time and traded it in.

I still own these 3 basses

Epiphone Bass (not sure of the model)
Rickenbacker 4001 (1975)
Stenberger L2 (1983)

So, in the last 39 years, only 3 basses for a ratio of .077 per year.

I have not bought a bass since January 1984.

Years Playing: 20
Total = .9 basses per year

Considering the percentages that I've seen by others that have posted in this thread, and that the vast majority of the basses on my "Previously Owned Basses" list are there because, after 13 years of playing, I had a "Mid-Bass Crisis" and needed to rediscover what physical styles & parameters, pickups/electronics, neck shapes, and ultimately what tone fit my currently and developed playing. They were purchased for "testing" to find which of the above parameters fit and which didn't, and after I discovered what "worked" for me and my "adult" playing style they were sold, and I've purchased the 5 basses I consider my "stable" (My Spectors and Mike Lulls - the 3 other "Currently Owned" in use are more fitted to specific tasks and playing syles) and cannot imagine ever selling. Considering all of the above, I don't feel bad about my .9 at all.

I've actually never sold a bass, I still have every one I've bought over the years.
