Bassman 115 vs 410?

I am planning on ordering a Bassman 100T, and was thinking of getting the 115 as a cab, but I have read very little here from people who might have played them. One of the Bassman threads had 1 unenthusiastic comment on the 115, and that was all I could find by searching. There have been lots of good written about the 410, but that seems like overkill for my needs. So, I would love to hear from anyone who has played through a 115, as no store in Colorado has these in stock for me to sample.

The Fender 410 will mostly likely be louder (SPL) than the 115 - and two 115s would probably be louder that the 410, but I’ve never used either Fender cabinets so I can’t tell you about tone, build quality, or etc.

If you're worried about overkill I’d get the 8ohm 115. That way it won’t be overkill, and if you change your mind later you can still add a second 115 for more volume.

I currently have an acoustic B115 Neo, which I thought if I ever needed 2 15's I could hook up as well, that was also in my thoughts about getting a 115 rather than the 410. I imagine from all the "mixing cab" threads that using 2 different brands of 115's is less problem than mixing 10's and 15's.

100 watts through a single 15 would make for a killer set up, good for practice, recording, and light jams. Add a 2nd 15 and it's gig worthy. Yes, a 410 would offer more volume out the gate, but if it were me, (and I'm considering this exact set-up), I'd go with 115 for starters.

lol, no those who don't recommend mixing drivers don’t recommend mixing different brands either - but I think it’s better than mixing drivers - so IMO your thoughts are good and headed in the right direction.

btw, I use (matched) stacked 115s too. ;)

I run either one or two Markbass Traveler 151P cabs. The two of them together at 500w rivals an 810, and is easily as good as a 610. But, like Bill said, a 210 does about the same with better dispersion (two 10s are about the same as one 15). Whichever, it's nice to be able to just bring one when that's all ya need.

Greetings,

I've owned the new "classic" Fender Bassman Neo 115 for about a month now, and have gigged with it in two different bands.

I am delighted with this unit for the sound I want - big, fat, round bottom end for finger-style. If you're interested in playing way up the neck, getting a percussive sound from a pick, or you're a slappin' dude then a 4x10 may be better. This 15" cab is light but well built, and the combination of the Eminence speaker, the dimensions of the cab, the two ports, and the adjustable tweeter really dial in the sound for me, and the weight doesn't send me to the chiropractor.

Just so you know I use this with two basses - a '78 P-bass with LaBella flat wound Jamerson strings and a custom Bill Lawrence pickup, and a '78 Jazz with RotoSound black nylon wound strings and Fender noiseless custom shop pickups.

The head is a '78 (yes, it was a good year for me!) mint Bassman 135. Best bass amp Fender has ever made, IMHO.

Hope this is helpful.

Thanks flipsterb, that was very helpful and I am very much into the deep full sounds I grew up with and played in the 60's, so I will go with the 115. I hear there may be some production problem with delays on delivery- has anybody heard anything?

Hello, sorry to revive an old thread but I'm thinking of maybe getting a Bassman 800 with a Bassman cab after I sell my Mesa Walkabout Scout, and was wondering if anyone has compared the Bassman Neo 4x10 to the 115 cabinet? My Walkabout with a single 12" speaker gets a little too ugly in the mids at higher volumes and I'd like to know which of these cabs stays a little more pleasant at higher volumes or even just their general tonal differences. I'm playing a Höfner with flats.
Thank You.

Hello again, V! Here's a link to my latest thoughts on Bassman cabs for the Bassma 800 that I keep repeating. Hope this helps.
