Bathroom break mid-gig?

I did this once. I was on the mend from a bad flu, and apparently a few of the symptoms persisted even though I felt up to playing that night. I handed my bass off to the keyboardist (dude's incredible, btw) and they played one of our more simple songs while I was fighting for my life in a toilet stall.
yeah I have had to photo finish at a gig before too , years ago, after a bad bout of food poisoning

It happened to me once a few years ago. Luckily for me the people there were clearly drunk enough to find it comical. I want to make a point that this was a dire emergency and there was no way I was going to keep on without pissing my pants. Normally it's just a nono. Atleast it was between songs :)

I have diabetes so there have been a couple of times when I had to go. I try to control it but sometimes it can be tough. About ten years ago when I did a show a "Bike Week" the band that was going on after us didn't show up. We were playing a large outdoor venues that held thousands of people. The manager asked the BL if we could do an extra set, however the BL failed to tell the drummer or I, until I assuming our set was over took my bass off and put it on the stand. The BL then informed me that we had to keep playing. I told him that I had to go to the rest room. At that point, he went to the mic and said "you'll have to excuse the delay while my bass player goes and pisses out all that beer he drank tonight". I went the mic, waved at the crowd and said "that would be me and I don't drink because I have diabetes". After the gig the BL screamed at me and accused me of making him look stupid. I told him that a better way to handle things would have been to explain that the other band didn't show up and we would continue playing after a short break. I never played with after that.

IMHO... a big part of being a professional stage performer is being very well prepared for the show. I believe this includes toileting.
Even if you are ill there are products that you can use to get you through a 6 hour time period.
That said, there may be one other issue.
Sally: "Hey Bobby, you ever get stage fright?"
Bobby: "Yes I do Sally. Scares the S### out of me!"

I had food poisoning at a gig and had to leave/take a break after 4 songs to take care of business. Terrible feeling knowing you have no choice. My sister was at the gig and ran out to get me Immodium. Problem solved for the rest of the gig.

Don Felder of the Eagles once was sick and crapped his pants on stage and just kept playing. Right into his boots he says. On that lovely note, time for lunch!

the way i see it, if you're pooping in a nasty bar restroom on a packed saturday night, you planned your day wrong!

otherwise hit the head right before you go on stage regardless, try not to drink 47 beers beforehand, and you should be fine for at least a 1 1/2 hour set.

(no comment on sickness or health issues, that's a different thing.)
