Battery question for Active EMG J's

does anyone know if with the active emg j pickups if a battery hole will have to be cut? It looks like the pots are considerbly more shallow that the stock pots that come in a j bass. Would it be possible to fit the battery under the controls in the cavity that is already cut for them?
I have a standard american j bass that currently has passive emg hz's in it but would like to upgrade them to actives but don't really like the thought of cutting a hole in the body of the guitar.

I don't think the battery/batteries will fit. My tech routed out a space under the pickguard to fit the batteries in mine.

according to emg's website the active pickups can be installed with little or no modification but was just wondering if anyone has actually tried to do it without cutting

The pickups themselves should require no modification. I have several basses with EMG's. Pickups fit right in.

Mine were put in 20 years ago. Pups fit right in. I think my tech had to make a little space. It's still pretty snug.
