Why? I think you are reading more into this than was ever intended.
Maybe so. I just get a bit perturbed when the obvious is stated by folks with no idea who or what they’re dealing with. Of course I knew full well how that head got treated as I’m the one that owns it, no one needed to lecture. I live and play heavily along the south Texas coastline, 75% outdoors 4 hrs at a time, sometimes in sudden rain, sometimes freezing damp/cold, sometimes 120 degrees with no clouds, ALWAYS salty, shall I continue? Again, the initial/original point that all too often is obfuscated in TB as a thread burns on like some stale candle, gets lost in meaning and intent, and I think today was my limit given that I’ve been through cancer treatments for two years, gave up all smoking/vaping/drinking etc. just to be told to do something as simple as taking care of my gear and use my bag like a good little boy.
The first time that head was exposed happened when a trailer door was left open and my head(in bag) got completely saturated and left like that at our BLs house unnoticed for several days prior to the start of the following week’s gigs. This was roughly four years ago, and the salty rainwater started the whole problem and the paint started curling away within a week in light of the massive wetness followed by excruciating temperature changes most folks up north aren’t lucky enough to experience.
BattleCat continued to pump until a few months ago, when the roadie dropped the head on its main vol pot corner, followed by another incident where a drunk rammed me into the head which in turn bent the ground lift toggle to the point of breakage.
As an electronics engineer throughout my career with large defense companies (i.e. I too know a thing or two about the subject), I had the presence of mind to at minimum disassemble the chassis way back with that first rain and completely clean the beast, inspect, and test to ensure it still operated, and it did. With that I decided to press on until/if something catastrophic happened, but she did me right for the next 3 or 4 years, by this time out of warranty. I searched online to see if anyone else experienced the same symptom as me following the pot breakage, and a tech note buried within MESAs website indicated that this was a somewhat known problem that might be fixable for a VERY low cost, so I pinged you and you directed me to the service folks who in turn fixed the issue at just a bit over $100, which blew my mind. Two weeks later and I can report my total satisfaction with my entire MESA experience and felt COMPELLED to let the brethren know of your organization’s righteousness, hence the thread with minute tads of silliness tossed in for good measure.
I was way more than ready to take the public whippings (which all seemed good-natured and I took them as such with a whole bunch of smiles), then IT happened and for reasons all my own I took major offense to this gentleman’s tone and that was that.
I subsequently reported this to “the moderators” who rapidly fined me two demerits and that was that, part two.
So, after 15 active membership years (and having surfed as a non-member since roughly 2009), I sent another message instructing them to take me to the TB grave and stop my paid membership. I’ve checked back several times today to see if they’d gotten around to it and close this chapter for good, but so far that hasn’t happened. I was about to fire off my last request and be done with it when I saw your late night message.
At the risk of sounding synchophatic, your opinions and valuable insights have long been the primary reason I’ve hung on this long as I suspect your words have kept others coming back as well.
Regardless of what results from all this stinking drama, know that MESA will ALWAYS be #1 in my book due to you and yours. If I vanish, as Paul Harvey famously said…
“and NOW you know the REST of the story”.
Thanks, Andy
