I use an old, but re-wound Rickenbacker high-gain bridge pickup on mine. I've played ones with P and J type pickups too. I like the Rickenbacker type pickup best, though, for either EADG or BEAD.
I don't understand the cause for alarm here.
The most drastic change that this would entail would be switching out the nut. Hardly a huge modification.
made a BEAD out of my P-Copy....
the low B is tight, but lost in Volume & Power...totally weak...
right now, i have Nordy np4v's in my bass,
..and while it was cool for EADG,
{as stated} it's not 'cutting it' on the low B.
{i've been noticing this for a while, in different situations,
so please don't come at me with "what Speakers do you Use"; "Action"; "Playing Style"; etc..the B is always relatively Weak}
i see alot of 'mention' here about having the 'right pickups' to get the most out of the B string,
but i don't see many suggestions of Brands....{just a few}
..anybody come across good {P-Style} 4 string p.ups for Low B??

Lol.. I guess I forgot to include that 'technical point' in the "don't come at me with.." statement.. But yes, it is fully set up and feels great...
I know this is an old thread, but I encourage anyone switching to BEAD, to try the Dunlop flatwound stainless steel strings. One of the problems with BEAD is that the B string is to muted to hear clearly... But this set of strings works especially good at giving voice to the lower strings.
