Beginner Bass Question

Thank you som much everybody for taking time to answer my question.

I completly agree you can play jazz on any type of guitar, it is just that I like the shape and look of the JB. I found that I play instruments that I like to look at more then others. Actually I identified the squire in the post as a CV (the seller did not know) it is very much possible that it is Vintage Modified I am not sure how much of a difference that means. Thank you for identifying the pickup cover, good to know, is the pickup cover the same thing as other refered to as "ashtray"?

I found the HB neck a bit better as it is a little bit wider, but I could easily get use to the squire as well. Funny was that the squire had a very thick lacquire on it I dont know if that is the case with the olders ones as well, the HB is satin. I do own an octave pedal, which cost almost as much as the HB :)) and as it was mentioned it gets the job done. But I just cant get use to the tone, no matter how I set it up it has a bit of syntsizer feel to it. Whic could be a good thing I guess if you looking for that. Also it is just more fun to play bass on a bass guitar......... As for resale value probably true the squire would sell better I have to think about that.

I will go and see if I can find a way to try the squire in person.

Yeah, the holes are for bridge and pickup covers. Note, though, that the holes by the bridge are actually for a Precision Bass cover. Holes for a Jazz Bass cover would be much further forward. Squier's a better bass overall but how it feels to you is the best metric. And the covers (AKA "ashtrays") are purely cosmetic (although I use my pickup covers as thumb rests).

Not to hijack, but curious about what pots (and cap) you would put in the Squier Sonic Precision, if you happen to know

ACrock is bang on the money. The Squier in question is a VM, MII. If it were a MIC 60's Vibe I would be all over it. Every VM i have ever picked up was very heavy as well. For what it's worth i don't see many complaints about Harley Benton products, i wish they were sold in US stores not just in Canada.

That Squier is a Vintage Modified 70s Jazz. Looks like a 2010 model, with Duncan Designed pickups and a satin neck finish. The pickguard was swapped, as they were originally black. I absolutely love those Duncan Designed pickups. Nice case too. I'd absolutely go with the Squier as long as it checks out.
