Beginner basses with a switch

Anyone have any good ideas for beginner basses with an active/passive switch? My budget is near $250 and I am looking for a jazz bass.

I think you'd need to scour the used market or find an affordable Jazz that you like and plan on dropping in a preamp with a passive switch somewhere down the road.

I saw an Ibanez Expressionist TR-500 not too long ago for rather low dough. I'm pretty sure those could go active/passive (I've always wanted one).
