Beginner bassist in Phoenix looking for...

Other humans to jam with, or professional musicians/bands I could watch practice sometimes on the weekends.

I have played guitar off and on for like 20+ years, and just picked up the bass like a month ago. I am not a great musician or anything even close. I just like to learn all I can about these instruments, and music in general.

Check the New Times musicians wanted section or Craigslist for people to jam with.

As far as bands, most bands probably wouldn't be too terribly comfortable with someone they don't know too well sitting in and watching a practice. Depending on the band it can be a very personal (for lack of a better term) time.

I'd say check out the following places for good local bands. Not all are going to be awesome but you'd be surprised at what you can find!

Yucca Tap Room
SW Corner of Mill & Southern in Tempe

It's a dive, but in a good way. I like it and I've seen several good locals there.

The Blooze
SW(?) Corner of 32nd St & Cactus

Biker bar but quite friendly. Usually has good rock shows. Nice set-up for smokers to hear the band too.

Joes Grotto
NW Corner of 32nd & Thunderbird

Used to have good local shows but I haven't been in about a year now.
