You're not untalented, but I'd say it's pretty straightforward as long as you have a little facility with the instrument.

That’s what I thought: the slides and ghost notes would throw off newbies. That said, nobody ever told me about ghost notes because I did it instinctively.

I dunno if I'd take the word "beginner" too literally. You can be a beginner in any aspect of music, even after playing 30 years. I mean, if you are talking about someone who bought the instrument last week, then yeah, it's probably not a lesson for "that" beginner. If you know what thumping and plucking is, but never did it before, then most competent bassists could play it.
