Hello,

I play EUB since March this year. Since August I own a nice DB from Thomann.
Now with the spirocores the bow response is pretty good for me and the sound isn't that bad as in the beginning ;-)
Up to now I almost just practiced scales, intervalls, hand positions, shifting and dry stuff like this.
Now I would like to find out how it would work in a musical context.
I'm looking for some easy study pieces for a beginner as me. I'm also a beginner in reading music.
I like classical film music from Howard Shore or also Hans Zimmer.
But also other suggestions are welcome.
cheers
Marco

PS: sorry for my bad english ;-(

Your English is fine. Take a look at this:

Hello,

thank you both for the tips!

Yes, about Simandl I heard yet, but there are that many different books, sheets and editions from his material.
I think these 30 etudes are available with a CD.
Is it right that the CD is recorded with the instruments on 438Hz?

I found some nice pieces from him on Youtube.
But I didn't find a lot from George Vance Progressive Repertoir. What I found, sounds interessting.

Do you think these both books are suitable for a beginner like me?
Think, that I am also a bloody noob in reading music.
So it would be good if the rhythm isn't that complicated and the intervalls aren't too big.
But I got help from a good teacher.

cheers
Marco

30 etudes is great. I'm about halfway through it. I must have started it a couple years ago. Going through Simandl (been on page 69 for a few months) and Rufus Reid concurrently. I'm an advocate of SLOW. I practice the classical stuff about 45 minutes a day (jazz for about 30 minutes).

When I started 30 Etudes, I was barely "intermediate", now I am deeply, profoundly "intermediate".

These are nice as well, and are a bit of everything; études, scales, some (reworked classical pieces) etc etc.

First one focuses on a position (half, first, second...) and then has exercises, the second one has more pieces/studies...

And this is the one with which I started (when I was 15 years old); more childrens based, but very very good:

thank you!
I just ordered Simandl... but perhaps I ordered the wrong one.

I ordered this

ISBN-10: 1596156368
ISBN-13: 978-1596156364

Anonymatt wrote that he spent a lot of time on page 69.
The edition I ordered has only 40 pages...

Now I just realised that the recommendet edition is called "30 studies" and I orderet "30 etudes"

I hope that is similar the same.

regards
Marco

I'm closer to a pure beginner, but I just started the Simandl 30 Etudes book, and I really like it. I can see that it's presented very logically and moving from easy to more difficult with each piece. This is exactly what I was looking to add to my practice. Now if I can just find the CDs somewhere! - Jeff
