I'm in the process of buying a fender BXR Spectrum. It's a 2x10 and 1x18 with 3 inputs. one for the 10's, the 18, and of course the whole party. Each input is at 4ohms with a 300 RMS.
all i need now is a cheap head to last me until i save up some, again. I've been reading the threads relating to how much wattage is needed for gigs and what not. My band plays a lot of house shows and if we do play bars...only the local bar mic's us up.
so i need your help it letting me know what are some good bass heads(somewhat cheap) that can get the job done.

its not really about "This is how many watts you need"

Especially with P.A. support, you can get by with a small combo nowadays.

However, With a cab like that, I would suggest a G-K because of it's Bi-amping abilities (you can send the low freqs to the 18", and mantain the crisp mids and highs with the 10s)

check the 700rb or maybe even the 1001rb

ooh, yeah, i just read up the info on it.

bi amping is a good idea though. there is a way to put so many watts and frequencies to different speakers.

you could just get any amp and run it full range and see how you like the sound

You could use a GK 800RB, which has true bi-amp capability.

An older SWR SM400S has bi-amping abilities, and puts out 250 watts/side. You can usually find them for about $300.

question....the spectrum is at 4ohm full range so if i was to say..i got a head that puts out 480watt at 4 ohm....that would be to much?

not really. all it means is you cant crank the amp without the speakers farting out and eventually popping.

you'll know if you're pushing your cab too hard
