Has anyone tried one of these PA/monitor systems, they would appear to be pretty good for small to medium sized pubs etc ?

I have one and use it in band situations for my personal vocal monitor. I can hit the "More Me" knob without changing what goes to FOH. Much easier than the damn thumbs-up thumbs-down crap that doesn't work after the soundman goes into sleep mode. It does not work well enough to function as a coffee house size PA for solo acts. Very tinny sound.
If I could change it, I'd put a reverb into it. That way for my solo/guitar act I could mix it from the stage to be the right levels and then send the signal direct to the front end and be done.

Thanks Paul, the Mackie is fair bit more expensive .
I currently use a Wharfedale EVP monitor system which is good but big and heavy, its a real struggle to fit it in my car along with my bass rig and PA system, also the monitors are heavy .
I wanted something light and small without breaking the bank to use as a monitor set up only .
I dont like the mic inputs though, dont know why they are jacks and not XLRs ?

Ok, will give it a miss, will look at some lightweight powered speakers like Mackie Thumps to use as monitors .

Today I bought a pair of Mackie Thump 12A powered speakers, I have a gig tonight so will be using them as monitors in place of my heavy and bulky Wharfedale EVPs, will post my findings, these are certainly very compact and lightweight .
The other bird I killed, my rehearsal PA (Carlsbro 100 Watt) has knackered speakers which are pretty crap TBH, I plan to use the Mackies in their place, taking the signal from the amps post out socket so they run like monitors but will be used as main speakers, they should prove to be better sounding and louder than the cheapo Carlsbro items .

I am glad to report that the Mackie Thumps (TH12A) I bought yesterday did an excellent job as monitors last night, they were very clear, I had some trial and error trying to control feedback but switching off the built in EQ worked well, the volume was plenty with controls on them set to half .
And with a weight of 25lbs they made life a bit easier .
