I have one of these which I still keep because I like the synth bass patches (some quite punchy tones). However it seems to have developed a fault. The power supply is a non-standard cable with multiple pins going into the unit and the unit powers up and you can do most things with it (change patches, and the like) but what doesn't seem to always function are the A/D and D/A parts as the tuner does not believe there is any signal going out, and there certainly isn't any coming out. If I wiggle the cable about enough and don't look at it in the wrong way it eventually works, but it's not exactly ideal.
It's a shame so since I like the synth bass I either need to find something that does similar things, with storage locations, at a reasonable price, get a new power supply, or an entire new unit. For recording I record dry plus a synth patch in a second channel, so conceivably for that use case I might be able to find post processing effects that do the job (especially if I sort out why my version of Guitar Rig doesn't currently believe I bought it) but not for anything live.
I currently also have an old Pod XT Bass - some big synth sounds, but not so much in terms of punchiness, and I'd need a floorboard for it (although I could use the B9 as a controller over MIDI), and a Zoom B2 and B9. The latter pair have relatively mediocre synth sounds themselves as the triggering reliability of the PWM-type sounds is very hit-and-miss, but you can get some decent sounds using the resonant filters and other effects, with more flexibility from the B9. I'll have to do more experimentation with those before I look at anything else, the current crop of Zoom pedals being the obvious place to look in terms of value, but I am not sure I'll find the punchy synths in there.
