Any update on these yet? They seem like a great value...I cant think of anyone else offering a new handmade singlecut 5 with exotic top for under $2,000. Has anyone out there actually played one? What type of tone do they have?

The next batch isn't scheduled until after NAMM in Janurary. Chris is builing all the work on every bass my himself. This summer he had a guy working with him, but apparently he couldn't handle the job so Chris is flying solo again. The waiting list on the custom basses is about 6-10 months. I believe they'll be released in batches of 10 every month (or so).

Fender-style head (instead of angeled-back scarf-joint or whatever it's called)
A cheaper brand of hardware (not Hipshot)
A lot less options - you can choose between a couple of different body woods, tops and fingerboard woods, and that's it

I think these details are what makes the Standard series different from the Custom instruments. Which means they'll still be killer quality and monster sound. I'd love one.

I hate how they say "for the player on a budget." A budget of what, 2 thousand dollars? Well, of course. It's a silly expression to begin with, but it should say "Comparatively inexpensive, but still more expensive than most basses."

What other bass with those type of specs is available at that price? Completely handmade, singlecut, exotic top, etc...

very well. i own a benavente SCD-5 (see avatar) and have played the standard series. both are phenomenal instruments. the difference is really more in the limited options that make production go quicker.

Nice! I'd love to check one of these out...

Oh man, this looks like a real deal!! And the fact that you can get one from M.F. with thier 30 day return policy is even better. If you can live without the "extras" this could be a steal if the quality is up there with the custom made ones. Jim
