I heard during the Le Freak sessions Nile didn’t know how to get Edwards’ bass to cut through the mix so he handed him a brown P with flats. But Edwards is also a skilled producer so he cracked the code. Pretty sure Bernard said “it’s in passive mode” to fool the crew.
