In the '70s 'Le Freak" video, he's playing a P bass. Bernard Edwards was a fabulous bassist with a perfect groove. He made the bass line dance and move, but he never overplayed.

It was John Taylor (Andy is the guitarist), and IIRC, Bernard gave him the BC Rich. They worked together on the Power Station album.

Everybody Dance - sounds like a jazz with flats.

My Forbidden Lover - Stingray

A pattern emerges. First album on Fenders - later albums on the Stingray

As others have mentioned, the BC Rich was a prop on those videos. The Stingray is clearly audible in the mix.
