Berthoud - but not as you know him

I know Youtubers are often polarizing. It's easy to dismiss them because they do try to work the algorithm. But a post I made on another thread got me curious. The dude does sing and has a decent voice. Here he's playing his thing (I mean two hand tapping bass guitar, not that the song is his), live while singing. He's obviouslly learned a bunch about making videos since. But color me seriously impressed. Far more impressive than his showier/overdubbed stuff simply because... three parts going at once from the same brain.

It sounds kind of like XTC. But couldn't he just play it on keyboard. I don't think that technique sounds as good as his other playing for the bass.

I liked the little instrumental part that was playing at the end.

I mean it's essential a 4-string stick at this point, but ... I dunno why this appeals to me more than keyboard.

I've always liked Stanley Jordan who does similar playing on electric guitar.

I notice something about instrumentalists.

The albums they record early in their careers tend to showcase how well they can play their own instrument.

The later albums tend to showcase how well they can make other people sound wonderful, though great composition and sharing of ideas.

I suppose for this reason I'm not super into these "look at me" one-man-band things. Somehow to the point above, it wouldn't come off that way to me if the guy were playing a piano.
