Best 8x10 for metal?

I wouldn't say so - IME, it's got a ton of lows, and bright clear highs... IME/IMO, the Megoliath is a very close 2nd to my Mesa PH810 - as the two best ported 810s on the market... For old school strong midrange, rolled off highs and lows, the Ampeg SVT810e is still a great answer, as is Bergantino's NV610 - but for volume, low end and highs, Mesa and SWR are #1 and #2, in that order...

Alot of your tone quest on the best 8x10 depends on how you wanna cut thru,and youre style of playing,right hand attack..
I think if you are looking for uber deep lows,and a scooped overdriven tone like this example,go for a ported 8x10 like the SWR Megalioth or MESA(if you got the loot)...
Maybe its my crappy computers speakers,but im not really digging anything this bass players doing,no tasty punchy mids man. BUT Alex Webster's tone thru an SWR 810 live last year in a small club I caught them at sounded AMAZING!!
What overdrive pedal/pre are you using? Fresh strings and a pick or fingers? maybe both? Ampegs get the job done period,LOTS of low mids you need,no tweeter,tweeters sound AWFUL with overdrive to me. Fizzle city!!
Try one at your LMS,it will sit nicely in the mix,no matter what.. I play an active(18vt) Spector EuroLX 5 string thru one and loved it until I found out that 2 EDEN 4x10XLTs kicked the **** outta the Ampeg for what my band needed,def not what I thought or expected!! Deeper punch,not too scooped and clearer! Dont forget tweeters and super distorted bass dont go together though,turn em down before even plugging up!
So maybe dont rule out two stacked,ported 4x10s for more lows,but the right brand will still give you the mids you need for super heavy detuned metal.
I still love my old Ampeg 810e,but try the GK neo stuff too for maybe the best of both worlds! Im about too,GOOD LUCK bro!!

As long as it isnt beat to hell,give it strong consideration for your Big Boy cab. I owned one for 24hrs 2yrs ago,stole it off Craigslist from a guy I knew who babied it,never even gigged with it,NEVER! BUT a close friend waved $800 at me on day 2 and I folded,I already had a normal 810e and needed less cab,not more fridge sized monsters. It was mint though,prolly should have NOT sold it,sounded a tad more crisp compared to my '98 810e. And to this day was..."The one cab that got away"

I will second everything that is said here except for the bass... I play Warwick basses ;) but I will say that I love my EDEN cabs and they rule for what I do. I'm a finger style bass player in a full on death metal band \,,/ and I don't use EFX of any kind. I have used EFX at one point in time so I do have some experience with them and will agree with what is said here... Distortion and horns DO NOT go together very well... Fuzzy fuzzy! Anyway, I have and use 3 different EDEN cabs that I pair up depending on venue size. I will pair up at least 2 of these cabs for every gig I play: Either a 4x10XLT, a 2x12XLT or a 2x10XLT... They do move some serious air and IME/IMO will out perform any Ampeg, SWR or MESA 8x10 I've ever used and/or played through and sound better too... But, EDEN stuff isn't cheap! Only thing that is a pain, you'll have 2 cabs to haul arround instead of 1 :hmm: A cool thing about the EDEN cabs though, is that if one were so inclined, one could turn off the horn for dirty distortion EFXs.
Ampeg stuff is nice though, and I liked the 8x10e I had... It sounded pretty good with the GK2000RB head I am using but I sold the Ampeg 8x10 cab after I got my EDEN cabs. That's how good I think the EDEN stuff is, but that's IMO...
Guess there isn't any one "best" cab to use and "best" is as varied as ones opinion is ;) I suggest to go "shopping" and do your homework before making a decision...
I hear good things about Genz Benz and that their UB8x10 uber bass cabs are pretty sweet but I have no experience with them yet... However, I do know they are ported and also have an adjustatable tweeter.
I hear great things about Aguilar stuff too but sadly, there isn't a shop in my area that has the Aguilar gear I'm interested in to "test" out before purchase :atoz:
EDEN makes an 8x10XLT as well too but I don't have any experience with it. Their other cabs kick *** though!!
