A clean vintage B15N is the best Ampeg combo, of course, but it's not exeptionally loud and is most popular for studio stuff. Get an SVT & 8x10 for live and loud.

Yeah, the Micro-VR is nice, but in my experience doesn't stand a chance with a loud drummer.
Why not find a 410 and head? Used you may spend about the same or less as you would have on the combo.

but that seems to make the cab/head extremely hard to transport ha... how much would that weigh probably 250 pounds?
good point. Make that an svt head duct taped to a '74 tiltback, the first one with wheels that still had the lighter cts 10's.
No, wait. back to the other cab, it has an attachable dolly.
BA115HP - It's got more power than a regular BA115. 220 watts vs. 100 watts. Mine has a built in tuner and mute switch which comes in real handy. Also has the line out to go to the PA system without having to insert a DI box into the chain. And it has wheels to roll it into the gig which it needs because it is too heavy to carry. Sound quality is fair to good, frankly. I wonder what a upgrade in speaker would sound like. It does not have an extention speaker output. I'm not a very experienced player but it has been very functional for me. If your guitar players are really loud, this might not be enough by itself. I got it on e-bay for $187 plus shipping, $240 delivered.
I've noticed the reviews on the combos rated at higher power than this one all have talked a lot about reliability and failure problems so I was leary of any of those. There seems to be a lot of people trying to unload those on ebay.
The BA115HP is cheaper than the portaflex I think so there must be some difference between them but I don't know the difference.
I might add that people have had vibration problems with these in different areas. Mine did too so I took the tweeter out and made a cardboard gasket to go between the tweeter and the cabinet. Then I added some foam rubber inside the speaker cabinet. This made a huge difference, much better. It's a great amp.

to answer, you have to define loud. from what i'm getting from you, it sound like you'll be pretty loud indeed but not insanely loud. in loud situations, speaker area is your friend. you may not need an 810, but a 115 or 210 combo may not cut it, either. if you want to go the combo route, i might suggest one of their new pf500 heads into one or two pf-115 fliptop cabs, preferably two. or maybe don't go the combo route and get a pf-500 or svt 3 pro with an svt 410he or 410hlf. i like the 410he myself, but some like the big boomy low end and wattage boost you get when you run at 4 ohms. bigger and heavier rigs, but you won't get caught short.
